Sun Certified Builders Co-op is the first multi-stakeholder worker co-operative in Manitoba. We offer two levels of membership:
The worker member is an employee of the co-op that receives an hourly wage, can serve as a board member or director and is paid a share of surplus earned by the co-op based on the members hours contributed during the fiscal year. Our by-laws require that 50% of surplus after expenses shall be paid back to worker members. The remaining 50% shall stay with the co-operative to cover operational costs until such time as a member quits, retires, or is let go, in which case the members remaining share is paid out. Sun Certified requires a six month probationary period for all potential worker members. A worker membership is $1000.
The supporting member is a person interested in supporting the co-op model or the energy efficient building sector in Manitoba. Supporting members may serve on the board of directors, attend all board meeting, and influence the business through participation in board decisions and activities including committees. Supporting share members are eligible for honarariums for committee work and directorships. A supporting membership is $50.
