Sun Certified Builders Coop is the first multi-stakeholder cooperative in Manitoba. We offer two levels of membership:
Sun Certified requires a six month probationary period for all potential worker members. A worker membership is $1,000.
The supporting member is a person interested in supporting the coop model or the energy efficient building sector in Manitoba. Supporting members may serve on the board of directors, attend general meetings and influence the business through participation in board decisions and activities including committees. Supporting share members are eligible for honorariums for committee work and directorships. A supporting membership share is $50. An individual may hold up to twenty support membership shares.

Donald is a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) and Tradesperson (CPHT) and a founding member of Sun Certified. He has been learning about and building high performance buildings and retrofits since he was a teenager and currently lives in a deeply retrofitted 1950s Riverview bungalow with his wife Roselle.
After multiple years of attempting to get hired with Sun Certified, Sean succeeded in 2023 and soon became a worker member of the Coop. Sean studied Biosystems engineering at the University of Manitoba and became a Certified Passive House Designer in early 2024. Sean has advanced his knowledge of high performance building through his experience on the ground and working with clients, and is now our Project Manager.
Eric stumbled upon Sun Certified’s website back in 2017 while writing a paper for his Master of Management Cooperatives and Credit Unions degree. Since then, he has been involved in various roles as a commercial client, board member, personal client, finance committee member and now on the staff! He especially likes Sun Certified’s down to earth approach and attention to detail.
Doug joined Sun Certified in 2019 and has since become an integral member of the Coop. He brings a wealth of experience related to HVAC systems and seems to know how just about any piece of technology works.

Danae Froese is leading the way for Sun Certified’s Human Resources department! With over a decade of experience in a variety of fields, Danae comes equipped with excellent organizational skills, compassionate human understanding, and resourceful communication (communication skills and tools).
Danae’s life purpose and practice is one dedicated to a sustainable lifestyle and shares Sun Certified’s vision in environmental stewardship. As a community cooperative oriented individual, Danae is dedicated to help foster an effective, prosperous, and diverse work environment, where Sun Certified can thrive as a team and develop climate-conscious homes that empower communities.
Evan is a founding member of Sun Certified. Starting in concrete construction as a teenager, Evan continued on as a carpenter gaining experience in wood framing and finishing carpentry. More recently his focus has been on super insulated renovations and high-performance new home construction. Evan achieved his Red Seal Endorsement in Carpentry in June of 2017. Evan has since graduated from the Master of Management, Co-operatives and Credit Unions program at Saint Mary’s University in September of 2023.
After spending 32 years in the federal public service, Rick retired from Parks Canada Agency. He held various positions such as human resource advisor, program manager, project coordinator, informal conflict management advisor and national trainer.
Rick is a founding member of Sun Certified and currently sits on the Board of Directors. Rick works in strategic planning and policy development for the cooperative.
