Power Smart for New Homes

During the Passive House designer course we attended at Manitoba Hydro's downtown office we had the opportunity to provide some input to Allison Lund, a marketing programs specialist, with Hydro regarding what they could do to promote more energy efficient building in Manitoba. We had taken exception to the fact that Hydro was providing grants for installing geo-thermal heat pumps but not for the construction of energy efficient building envelopes. We pointed out that without comparable incentives we believed that the average consumer would not be likely to pursue building a more efficient home. We would like to believe that, because of our input, the Power Smart for New Homes program was born.
